With fabulous weather on the morning of the 8th, all three plus climbing sherpa Lhakpa set off for the summit at 8am after a lazy breakfast.
Field Touring Alpine Ama Dablam & Island Peak 2009 Team Page
We are very excited about our 5th annual trip to Ama Dablam and Island peak beginning in mid-october and led by Chris Szymiec. Chris is coming off his successful climb on Satopanth and making his 4th trip to Ama Dablam. We have one team starting on October 15 which will be assisted by Ian Blessley and Sam Tyler and a second starting on November 4 that will be assisted by Ian, Sam and Brad Jackson. On both trips our teams will acclimatize on Island Peak before heading over to Ama Dablam. We have concurrent trekking groups joining us for Island Peak who will then head on over to Everest BC, over the Cho la to Gokyo and finally back to Kathmandu. We have room on both trips for climbers and trekkers so we hope you can join us!
In 2011 Ama Dablam will be led by Ben Kane and mark our 7th straight season on the Himalayan classic. We have summited in every year and look forward to seeing Everest from the top again!
Trekkers are welcome to join our team to our base camp and then continue on to Island Peak or Everest BC!
In 2010 we sent two teams to Ecuador and both teams came home summits on Cotopaxi, Illinizas Norte, Gugua Pichincha, Pasachoa and more!

In 2009 Field Touring Alpine returned for our 2nd trip to the Broad Peak and K2 double-header with a very experienced team led by Chris Szymiec and Fabrizio Zangrilli. We had an amazing adventure that summer on the mountain and while we did not summit our members reached very high on both peaks and returned home with memories and photos for a lifetime.
In 2009 FTA had its first trip to Satopanth and succeed in summiting the peak and returning safely. We now offer the trip annually in the post monsoon!
In September 2011 we will embark on our second expedition to Satopanth and hope you join us on the trip or follow along with our dispatches! This 7027m peak is a soaring fin of snow and ice and lies in one of the most beautiful regions in India. As our team approaches the mountain and climbs its steep slopes they will be treated to views of Thalay Sagar, Shivling and the terrifying granite pillars of Bhagirathi III, described as “El Cap with a Droites North Face on top at 6000M".
The trip from start to finish is one of the most remote and demanding trips we offer and if you have strong techincal skills and an aptitude for altitude then this may be a great climb for you! See our Satopanth page for more details!
In August 2007 we had a strong team take on 7027m Spantik and placed 10 members on the summit during 2 days. Spantik is a formidable mountain in a remote setting and one of our best true expeditions. We hope you enjoy meeting the team and reading the trip notes! We run the trip every August and hope you'll join us soon!
