Join FTA for an unforgettable Himalayan journey covering three high passes and 4 peaks in less than 4 weeks! We'll make our trek in to climb Island Peak by way of Namche and Tengboche Monastery and then climb Pokalde and Lobuche East en route to Gokyo by the Kongma La and Cho la passes. After a final climb on Gokyo Ri we cross the Renjo La to reach Thame and its historic monastery!
Pokalde is considered one of the easiest trekking peaks but still has considerable steep climbing to be done to reach the summit. We’ll plan to camp near the Kongma La and summit by the north ridge and be prepared to climb with ropes in few sections if necessary! The views from the top back to Island Peak and Ama Dablam will provide new perspective on mountains you will have been watching for many days.
Island Peak 6189m
Island Peak has the reputation of being one of the easier 6000 meter trekking peaks. Though the route is not technically challenging there are several steeper sections requiring fixed lines and a lengthy and narrow summit ridge. We will install a high camp to improve our acclimatization and shorten the summit day.
Lobuche East 6119m
The summit of Lobuche East offers phenomenal views of the Khumbu with Everest, Ama Dablam, Cholatse, Pumori and other Himalayan giants surround you. The climb is relatively straight forward to the far eastern summit which is where most teams will stop and celebrate. The true summit is rarely ascended and often involves precarious climbing on an unstable and corniced ridge. If conditions are excellent and members have demonstrated good skill previously some or all of the group may make an attempt on the true summit.
Gokyo Ri 5367m
The views from Gokyo at sunrise and sunset are not to be missed and offer some of the finest views of Everest, Cholatse, Ama Dablam and more. After being so well acclimatized from our previous three climbs this will seem a mere amble of a few hours to the top.
